It is believed that the castle (erected in the Hradčany district), was first built in 880 by the Duke of Bohemia, Bořivoj I, of the Premyslid Dynasty (the first Christian prince of Bohemia). The Church of the Virgin Mary was the first walled building to be erected on the 753,474 square metres, followed by the St. George Basilica (920) and the beautiful Gothic-style St Vitus Cathedral (930).
