Half a day of your stay will be dedicated to discovering the history of Dubai to understand how this small fishing village was transformed into a state-of-the-art metropolis.   • Al Bastakiya (also known as Al Fahidi) is in one of the oldest parts of Dubai. It was built in the 1890s to house wealthy Persian merchants. It was planned to demolish the buildings in Al Fahidi to make way for modern offices. Fortunately for Al Fahidi, Prince Charles intervened when he wrote a letter at the request of British architect, Rayner Otter, to preserve this historical quarter of the city.
