Disneyland Paris includes a wide range of attractions divided into two separate theme parks: Disneyland Park founded in 1992 and Walt Disney Studios Park set up in 2002 to expand the overall supply of the complex. Located about thirty kilometres east of Paris, Disneyland Paris ranks first among all European tourist destinations (it welcomes around 15 million visitors per year).
This 22 km² leisure place is the fourth most visited Disney park in the world after those of Walt Disney World in Florida (United States), Disneyland Park in California (United States) and Tokyo Disney Resort (Japan). It is ahead of visitors to the two parks located in China: Hong Kong Disneyland and the very recent Shanghai Disney Resort. In 2017, Disneyland Paris celebrated its 25th anniversary with great fanfare by launching a vast renovation program for its park. Among the novelties, a daily night show and a new version of Star Tours attraction inspired by Star Wars films (Star Tours: The Adventures Continue), replacing the previous version dating from 1992. In parallel, the leaders of the French park are rehabilitating the site’s flagship attractions, namely Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain (which was (formerly known as Space Mountain: Mission 2), Pirates of the Caribbean and Phantom Manor.
In the coming years, Disneyland Paris will implement a significant extension to double its current size in the long term. This is the largest development plan for the park since its opening. It includes the addition of a new thematic world entirely dedicated to Marvel (through the Marvel Avengers Campus inaugurated in July 2022). New Star Wars and Frozen universes will follow by 2025 with the deployment of new shopping and restaurant areas. An artificial lake will connect these new entertainment spaces. Initiated in 2019, this unprecedented investment could reach the tidy sum of 2 billion euros from 2021, corresponding to the opening date of the first leisure areas (which includes the Iron Man Adventure attraction). The management of the park has also committed to reducing its environmental footprint through the installation of a vegetable garden and hives, the removal of plastic straws, the abandonment of plastic bags for single use in favour of the sale of reusable bags, the establishment of refillable bottles in hotels, as well as the development of a water treatment station. Through its various essential rides and attractions, its golf course and its seven themed hotels, Disneyland Paris is much more than a simple entertainment park, it is a real enchanted kingdom at the gates of Paris.
