Namibia is the last African country to officially become independent (1990). Its name refers to the Namib, the oldest desert in the world (55 million years). Together with the Kalahari, these two stretches of desert cover two thirds of the country. With its breathtaking natural scenery, Namibia offers a wide range of landscapes inhabited by an extremely varied fauna and flora. Like Mongolia, Greenland or Australia, its vast spaces are among the least densely populated lands on the planet (average of 3 inhabitants/km²).
