Montenegro was the last republic of the former Yugoslavia to declare its independence (2006). It is a small country with an Orthodox majority (more than 70 per cent of the population) and counts less than 1 million inhabitants. It boasts an attractive built heritage (churches, cathedrals, monasteries, medieval remains...) and one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Mediterranean basin. Nestled in the Balkans, Montenegro has peaks reaching over 2,500 meters above sea level. It is therefore possible to swim on the Adriatic coast and ski in the hinterland during a short stay.

Major places to visit in Montenegro: Bay of Kotor, Durmitor National Park, Sveti Stefan Island Town, Lake Skadar National Park, Biogradska Gora, Lovćen, Prokletije National Park...
